Rokstone Strengthens Specialty Reinsurance in Underwriter Appointment

Rokstone’s Specialty Reinsurance team is growing, with Airlie Isted ACII joining as an Underwriter. With experience across Marine, Energy and Terrorism reinsurance, Airlie brings specialist expertise to a business that has made a strong start and has ambitious plans for the future.

Airlie joins from Antares Managing Agency Ltd, where she spent more than four years progressing from Assistant Underwriter to Underwriter in April 2024. She began her career at AXA XL in 2018 as an Apprentice Underwriter in Specialty Reinsurance, later progressing to Trainee Underwriter.

Now, she is joining a team with plenty of momentum behind it. In its first ten months, Rokstone’s Specialty Reinsurance business wrote USD 25 million in Gross Written Premium, with a target of USD 40 million in 2027.

Airlie will work alongside Eddie Hughes, Head of Specialty Reinsurance, as the team continues to build its global treaty portfolio across:

  • Marine

  • Energy

  • War, Political Violence and Terrorism

  • Property

  • Aviation

  • Space

For Eddie, the appointment is also a chance to work with someone whose development he knows well. He originally hired Airlie at Antares and has followed her progress ever since. He said, “Airlie is one of the most gifted underwriters I know and, in my view, is a decade ahead of her peers.”

He continued, “I have had the privilege of seeing her talent develop first hand. Her technical ability, commercial instinct and judgement are exceptional and she has an instinct for the business that is rare at any stage of a career.”

That first-hand experience made the opportunity to bring Airlie into Rokstone all the more compelling. As the portfolio grows, the team is focused on combining specialist underwriting expertise with the ambition and commercial judgement needed to build a business for the long term.

“I am delighted to be working with her again at Rokstone,” Eddie adds. “She brings valuable experience and will be a huge asset as we continue to grow the portfolio. We have made a fantastic start, but we have much bigger ambitions, and having someone of Airlie’s calibre alongside us will be instrumental as we take the business forward.”

For Airlie, the move brings her back together with a leader she knows and trusts, while giving her the opportunity to contribute to the next stage of Rokstone’s growth.

“Having worked with Eddie at Antares, I know first-hand the quality of underwriter he is and the kind of business he wants to build, so the opportunity to join him at Rokstone was an exciting one,” said Airlie.

She continued, “Rokstone has an outstanding reputation in the market, and its growth, entrepreneurial culture and commitment to giving talented underwriters the freedom to develop and build their portfolios make it a hugely attractive place to be.”

Her appointment further adds specialist underwriting talent to a business that is building its portfolio with clear intent. With strong foundations in place and ambitious growth targets in the near future, Airlie’s experience will help strengthen the team’s capabilities as Rokstone continues to develop its position in specialty treaty reinsurance.
