Rokstone Recruits Strengthen Actuarial and Underwriting Management

We are pleased to announce the appointment of two senior management positions. Stuart Lee and Martin Thomas join Rokstone as Chief Actuary and Head of Underwriting Management respectively.
Meet Stuart
Stuart joins Rokstone from Markel, where he spent 14 years in the actuarial function, most recently as Chief Actuary. His previous experience includes roles as an actuarial and economic analyst at KPMG and the Bank of England.
Stuart is known for his passionate yet pragmatic approach to actuarial excellence, focusing on integrating the actuarial function with underwriting and claims to support both internal decision-making and external communications.
As Chief Actuary at Rokstone, Stuart will lead and develop our in-house reserving and pricing functions, ensuring superior outcomes for our carriers. His ability to simplify complex analyses and communicate effectively will be invaluable to our team. Keen to join the team, Stuart said,
“Rokstone has a highly collaborative approach and refreshing desire to make the actuarial team part of the front office decision making. I’m excited to build out Rokstone’s actuarial capabilities to ensure we continue to deliver superior outcomes for carriers as we grow.”
Meet Martin
Martin joins Rokstone from Probitas, where he was Head of Underwriting Management. His career includes significant roles in underwriting management and business transformation at StarStone Insurance, Willis and Occam Underwriting.
At Rokstone, Martin will be responsible for underwriting management, operational control, regulatory governance and business change management. Ahead of joining the team, Martin said,
“I’m excited to join Rokstone. It’s a unique business and needs a unique underwriting framework to match. I am working from a foundation of excellence, but as a problem solver and solution designer, I know there is always a better way of doing things.”
Moving Forward
Ian Anson, Managing Director at Rokstone, highlighted the significance of the new appointments. He said,
“Stuart and Martin bring exceptional experience to the team and will play crucial roles in ensuring we continue to deliver exceptional service to our clients and markets.”
